This test is performed similarly to a regular EKG stress test. In a Nuclear Perfusion Stress Test pictures of heart circulation are obtained using an isotope that is injected intravenously.
An IV is initially established and the isotope is given through this and scanning under a camera is performed to obtain pictures of the heart circulation at rest. An exercise stress test is the performed as described under cardiac stress test, near the end of the exercise another dose of the isotope is injected and a further minute or so of exercise is performed to circulate the isotope to heart and then post exercise pictures are taken again.
Both sets of pictures the rest and exercise pictures are then compared to give information about the hearts circulation and function.
